Lightning

This is for the Stooshnoff Family:

There is major lightning shows every night, with some extreme FORKS!! Sheets as well, but the forks are way better. Strikes would probably count up to 1500 or more per night, I never stay up long enough to count. As for rain. Well basically it only rains at night... if it does rain though you basically have up to 15 seconds to get under cover or your soaked from head to toe. It goes from sprinkle sprinkle for 10 seconds to straight on monsoon in 5 seconds, everyone goes running for cover.
There will be some good camera bideos to watch when we get back.
Tomorrow morning we are heading to Koh Tao, a small island known for diving and snorkeling.
- Darcie

Yup, tomorrow we are heading for Ko Tao, a snorkelling island. Our trip today to Mad Hadd was cancelled as it was low tide and summer, so it is not great snorkelling conditions. Ko Toa has loads of good coral reefs so snorkelling should be great. The accomodations will be less than great though, as A/C is expensive...so fan room it is. I think. Only time will tell.

Sunburn Update

Darcie is sleeping still, so I am having a morning Mocha, and thought I would provide a further update to our current sunburn scenarios.

So after both getting extreme sunburns, although Darcie's much worse than mine, we have now started to peel. At least the burning sensation is gone. Here are photos of the current situation...We will keep you updated.

NICE WORK DRIVNEDGE

NOT TO SHABBY YOURSELF MIKE

Today we are going snorkelling at Mae Had, a small island off the northwest coast of Ko Phangan which we are staying on. Should be good.

PHOTOS

This is a collection of photos so far. This is taking forever to get them loaded in, so this is all we are doing now, cause it is dinner and beer time for me!

One of the beaches during our boat trip. Can't remember the name...plus it's not really that important anyways. So there.
View from the boat during our day trip. Beautiful turquoise water and a small rocky island.

We did a day boat trip around the island, visiting a sacred waterfall (more like a stream), several really nice beaches and a coral reef to snorkel. On the way back, we drank cheap Thai Wiskeys with the boat driver and his crew. Real SAFE!

Darcie in the sawarngthawn, during our treck from bottle beach to Ko Phangan. We made the treck with a couple of Dutch Girls. A little sketchy driving in their crazy roads.

Sunrise at Chumphon. This is after an 8 hour bus ride, where we caught the boat to the Ko Phangan, where we are at now. How Romantic.

This was the beach at Bottle Beach. We spent much time utilizing the shade under these palm trees.

This was our place at Bottle Beach. Sorry it is sideways. Don't know how to fix it. That hammock was well used.
This is in Bangkok, outside of our hotel we stayed in. It is a canal that leads into the River. It is real dirty and stinky, wet some poor folks have to live right on it and dry their cloths above it.

Mike and Darcie, hiking along the rocks at Bottle Beach. My cheeks are red cause I was sweating cause it was hot.
This is all the photos for now. More to follow.

Haad Rin

So we made it to Haad Rin today....again much different from the last place, even though it is a small island. This place is like a mini carnival, right on the beach. Lots of tattoo shops, restaurants serving mostly beer and buckets. Buckets are exactly that....a small plastic sand bucket, with a mickey of booze, one can of pop and one small bottle of red bull. Mix all three in the bucket, and watch out. This drink will make you party like the carnival town this is. Fun stuff though. The bungalow we got now rules....high class with A/C, mini-bar and warm water. And just steps from the beach. The beach here is beautiful. White sand beach, with crystal clear turquoise water that is warmer than darcies armpits, which is extremely warm. But it does not smell as bad.
It is 8pm and we are passing the time before we go see a live cobra snake and scoprion show at one of the local bars. Should be interesting. Goota go, as my Chang Beer is getting warm. Later......
- Mike

And now it is me. Today we travelled by boat, taxi truck, and long hot walk to get to this beach but it is well worth the travel.
This place has air conditioning... compared to a fan that blows the hot air around that we had at the last place and not to mention it even has hot water. The other beach we just left only had cold water. It wasn't too bad except first thing in the morning. We also have a fridge so we don't have to drink warm water in the middle of the night like we did at the last place. That rules. My sunburn is getting a little bit better, and less irritated now that I cut off all the tags off my shirts that were rubbing the hell out of the leather skin that has erupted.
We also have clean clothes once again. 1kg laundry/ $1.20 (40 baht)
stop wondering when the hell were going to post pictures... tomorrow.
I like to swim in the ocean, however I keep getting bit by some sort of ocean critter. Feels like one small stinging netal prick . Maybe it's all in my head, because Mike has only got bit once and me now probably 50 times.

- Darcie

PS Hey Jenn thanks for taping grey's for me
PS - Gregg...Go for it.
ps -Sydney... it's not a secret anymore because people can see what you have posted.

Leaving Haad Khuad (Bottle Beach)

Hello everyone. TOday I think is THursday and we have been here at Bottle Beach for 4 days now. Last Sunday we travelled 8 hours by bus, 4 hours by boat, 1 hour by taxi to get us here.
We are thoroughly enjoying the weather here, despite Darcie getting heat stroke and a cruel sunburn the 2nd day here, at least I didn't barf this time. As well as there is no AC in the bungalows , so I (Darcie) hasn't breathed cold air in over 6 days now. I am getting a little heated inside. But the nice temperature of the ocean takes care of all the heat issues. Good bye on with our travels.
Darcie

My turn says Darcie....
Yes she did get heat stroke. Why listen to Mike and put on sunscreen? The heat here is intense and lots of sunscreen, water and SHADE is the only way to do it. Enjoying the ocean...swimming, kayaking and such. Hoping to get out snorkelling in the next couple of days. This place we are at it pretty remote, so we are off to the next place, which has a bit of a town to it. Hat Rin, Ko-Phagnan, here we come. We are not quite sure yet how to get photos from the camera onto this computer, so maybe next time.
-Mike

PS....
- Esaus...Darcie is looking forward to seeing Keaton upon our arrival back home.
- Mom Walz...Hope Peems is starting to come around...and not hissing to much. Thanks.

We Made It

Hello to all....Because you are reading this, i guess it means we made it. Well we did, but not after the longest day of our lives. 13.5 hour flight to hong kong, 2 hour layover while getting harassed due to our home printer "E-ticket" ( i guess they have never seen these on this side of the world), 2.5 more hours to bankok. After sneaking by the hoards of people trying to get us on their taxi, we found our way downstairs to the government run taxis and 1 hour later, we made it to our hotel.
It is HOT here....well more humid than hot, but either way, I am sweating. Full time sweating.
Having lots of fun so far, just walking around town and getting accustomed to things.
Well....it's now Darcie's turn to write, as we only have a couple minutes on here.
Later to all.
- Mike

ok now it's my turn to tell all about the near scam by a so called univeristy student, who seemed very nice at the time, just trying to give us pointers. but as it turned out after reading in the lonely planet and also seeing a bulletin at the local travel agency yeah it was a full on scam. hmmm maybe thats' why as soon as we were finished getting haggled by the "university student" who wanted to show us a taylor shop where you buy suits, and telling us the goverment is having a one day only discount sale day, that''s why a tuk tuk suddenly showed up not 2 seconds down the road trying to get us to go to see the buddha. he says for only 10 baht ( 30 cents) wwe could get a all day tour of the buddha's and taylor shops. yeah good thing I have IBS problems we didn't end up going with him. Apparently they take you to the jewel store, lock the door, make you use all your money. we smarter then them anyways. Bangkok, very disguisting. It's smells of deep fried from meat, and smoke from all the cars. paradise is waiting down south.
over and out
love drivnedge

Holy Excited

T Minus 6 hours. It is only 8am and I have been up for several hours. Couldn't sleep. Too Excited. So I woke up, walked to Timmy's for a morning brew and have now been "surfin-the-net", looking for more info for our travels.

I figured I would post a Map, so for those of you who are not familiar with Thailand, will have an idea of where we are during our posts.

So here it is .....

The idea is to begin in Bangkok, and then head south to the Gulf of Thailand coast, and enjoy the islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Samui. There is also a smaller island called Koh Tao, which apparently has amazing diving.
From there we will head across to the Adaman Sea Coast and down to the area between Phuket and Krabi. This is the area which was devastated by the tsunami, so it will be interested to see what it is like now. During that trek from coast to coast, there is Khao Sok National Park, which we will try to hit to do river and jungle tours.
Depending on timing, we may hop on a plane and fly up north to Chiang Mai. This is said to be the cultural capital of Thailand.

So we have a plan and our bags are packed. Now we are just waiting on the clock...

Gettin Ready

It is Monday night, and we finally have a chance to get ready and pack for our trip to THAILAND. We are both soooo excited. The last several months have been very busy between work, snowboarding and getting ready for the Wedding. The Wedding went better than we could have hoped for. We had a blast, as I hope you all did too.
So this is just a test post for our travel blog. We are told this would be an easy way to keep anyone who was interested in our travels, up to date. So we will try to post as often as we can, but between snorkeling, eating Thai noodle bowls, riding elephants, going on jungle treks, sea kayaking, drinking Thai beer and whatever else is in store for us, we can not guarantee there will by many posts.
